The Vermilion Sea Institute is located in Bahía de Los Ángeles, Baja California; on one side of the Sea of Cortez. Since 1960, it has been a center for scientific research and education in the area. In recent years, they have made efforts to involve local youth in their activities with a program called "Aventureros". Its goal is to educate and empower the next generation of conservation leaders in Bahía.
The "Aventureros" program is designed to help local children and teens discover Bahia's marine and terrestrial ecosystems, how humans impact these, and the importance of balancing human needs while working to find solutions to conservation problems.
One of the goals of the program is to foster a connection to marine and ecosystems while developing the knowledge and skills for youth to be stewards of their local marine reserve.
